The electric vehicle has moved from 400V packs to 800V-and-above platforms, and the high-voltage EV connector now has to move far more power without cooking itself. Air-cooled guns hit a thermal wall well below megawatt-class charging, so the liquid-cooled charging connector has become the practical answer: cooling lifts heat-dissipation efficiency versus air cooling by roughly 65 percent and lets a session approach the 1.3 MW class within minutes. Integrated thermistor modules watch the core temperature and step the power down or cut it on overheat, which is the only way to keep thermal runaway out of the loop. Regulation is catching up fast. China issued GB/T 20234.4-2024 for high-power DC charging interfaces, and the revised standard adds liquid-cooled interface dimensions plus leakage-detection rules, while ISO 15118-20 in its 2025 edition makes the liquid-cooled connector communication protocol mandatory. At the heavy end, the EV fast charging connector for trucks now targets 1000A continuous current, and the Megawatt Charging System is settling in as the unified benchmark for commercial fleets. New unified interface rules also set 7-pin AC and 9-pin DC formats and require electronic locking with CC/CP feedback, so coolant sealing above IP67, dielectric strength at or above 20 kV per mm, and self-sealing couplings are now part of the spec rather than a nice-to-have.

Require a voltage rating that covers 400V to 1000V with headroom, current capacity matched to the charge rate, sealed housings meeting IP67 or IP6K9K, and suppression that holds CISPR 25 limits for conducted noise above 10 GHz. Confirm GB/T 20234.4 and ISO 15118-20 alignment where the market demands it, keep AEC-Q200 and IATF 16949 evidence on file, and ask the supplier for mating-cycle, leakage and thermal-runaway test reports.
